It was San Francisco Financial District prices - but I wasn't in San Francisco. The bulk of it were vegetables, which were great, but for the price she charged ($10 for a regular which was a normal serving for one person, $18 for a large - which would've fed two). While the chowder tasted fine, I was hoping to have a little more razor clam in there. Each batch is made to order, so this is not a store you can run in and out in under 5 minutes. She was nice and friendly and answered all of our questions and gave us samples of the ice cream. I had no complaints of the person who was serving us.

There were also semifreddo which were available. I very much enjoyed the ice cream flavors that were available the day we visited - the lemon poppyseed was my favorite, paired with a homemade waffle cone. We visited Buttercup on our drive south on Hwy 101.

The covered patio has a view of the river and tables and chairs, a sweet spot. There is outdoor seating in the back, not attached to the actual restaurant but a short walk behind the building.

There are a variety of fresh handmade cones there, I loved the graham waffle cone dipped in chocolate, he made it right before scooping it full of blackberry lavender ice cream! My husband had the raspberry buttermilk and it was awesome, we were trading back and forth. Amazing! Soups come with french bread and butter, you can also purchase a salad. I had the seafood added, white fish and large pieces of prawns. What really hit the ball out of the park was the Thai chowder! It was very rich and creamy while still being vegan. I thought it was great but the not the best I've ever had. There were vegetables, lots of celery, onion and not too many red potatoes. It was made with lots of large pieces of clam and very creamy but not super thickened which I think is better. The clam chowder was great in my opinion, but my hubby didn't like it, said the broth was too thin. A chalk board shows most of their ingredients are purchased from local farms. Buttercup is unique and different, in the best way, and everything is fresh and homemade. If you're idea of good clam chowder is going to Mo's then you may not like this.
